Motiv8 is a support community which aims to empower people with inclusive activities and to support people's well-being and mental health. Conwy Voluntary Services Council (CVSC) recently organised a Motiv8 event and Coleg Llandrillo students and staff had a huge role in making sure the day ran smoothly.

The event last month aimed to reach those hard to reach or inactive members in the community via tasters and activity workshops promoting inclusivity and wellbeing. Representatives from various local organisations had a presence at the event so volunteers could easily signpost visitors onto further activities available in their local areas.

One student who had an important role on the day was Sherrie Lamond from Colwyn Bay, who studies Health and Social Childcare at Coleg Llandrillo. Sherrie helped Motiv8 staff meet and greet visitors and show them to the different activities available at the event. Commenting on the day, Sherrie said:

It's great to meet new people and it's been an interesting experience. I like to be busy and I have been extremely busy today!

Her tutor Abigail expressed how proud she was of Sherrie and how far she has come since she started with the college last year. She said:

Sherrie is an inspiration to other single parents who left school at a young age with little to no qualifications. Sherrie has done very well in college this year and will progress onto Level 2 Health and Social Childcare this September.

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai's Rugby Enrichment Officer Hannah Hughes was at the event with former Captain of the Wales Women's Rugby Union team Rachel Taylor. They were at hand to help people get involved in some fun rugby related activities with the students' favourite giant rugby ball. Hannah and Rachel are holding an ILS Rugby World Cup themed festival later this year, and they explained how Motiv8 and similar events really help get people together and help with planning future inclusivity events. Hannah explained the importance of their involvement in the Motiv8 event:

It's important to put on events that everyone can take part in and enjoy. Rachel and I run a mixed ability rugby team on a Saturday morning in Colwyn Bay rugby club and it's great for us to come to an event such as Motiv8 today to talk to people in the community who might like to join a new team that suits their needs but didn't know what was available before.

In addition to physical activities there were also craft stations, problem solving workshops and information points to learn more about what was on offer in the local community.
