Local residents were given the chance of a pampering at Coleg Llandrillo's Rhos-on-Sea campus recently.
NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy (Massage) students organised a holistic spa evening for clients, within the college's professionally-equipped salons. Leading up to the event, the students embarked on a comprehensive marketing campaign.
The two-hour spa package promotion was entitled a 'mid-winter make-over'. The group of students offered clients a range of treatments: starting with a facial (including scrub and face/scalp massage/pressure points), followed by an aromatherapy mask and full Swedish body massage, culminating with a hot stone back massage.
The fifteen-strong team also organised refreshments and a raffle. The promotion covered one of the students' mandatory units where they have to promote services.
Beauty Therapy course co-ordinator, Sue Cowley, said:
The students offered a range of excellent treatments, ensuring client satisfaction and total professionalism. Each treatment was tailor-made to suit client needs and everyone left the salon revitalised and refreshed, feeling extremely pampered. Total responsibility was given to the group: from costing the package, through deciding on treatments, to staff rotas and advertising.
Faniswa Belebesi Williams from Llandudno, a student involved in the organisation of the evening, said:
We really enjoyed having the responsibility of organising the spa evening. It prepares us for the world of work, where we will have to ensure that clients are fully satisfied. We now realise how to organise promotional events and what factors must be considered.
The commercial salons are open to the general public all year round.
