A recent science quiz held by Bangor University certainly produced some very positive results for Coleg Menai students.
Two teams from the college's AS and A Level department took part in the Chemistry Quiz night, which was held at the University's Chemistry Department. The Royal Society of Chemistry sponsored the evening, with teams from local schools and Further Education colleges taking part.
The teams firstly listened to talks by university lecturers on their fields of expertise, and then participated in a fun-based quiz on chemistry-based questions, many linked to popular culture.
At the end of the quiz, Coleg Menai's A1 Applied Science team were crowned the winners, with the college's A2 Chemistry team coming in a respectable third. The winners received prizes including Elements Top Trumps, chocolates and thermochromic mugs and, to finish the evening in style, all participants were treated to free pizzas!
Applied Science student Emily Hughes from Beaumaris said,
I really enjoyed listening to the lecturers, and found Dr Martina Lamann's talk on sugars particularly inspiring. I must admit, I'm seriously considering studying at Bangor University after taking part.
Fellow student Rob Peckett-Johnson of Llanbedrgoch agreed,
The evening was very informative, but also a lot of fun. I learned some unusual chemistry facts, and had some good pizza and salad! I would definitely do it again!
