A Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor bricklaying student has been named Wales' top construction apprentice.
Ifan Williams, 18, of Aberdaron, was named the CITB Regional Apprentice of the Year for both West Wales and Wales as a whole at the CITB Apprenticeship Awards ceremony in Merchant Taylor's Hall, London recently.
The CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) says the awards celebrate the "best of the best" apprentices across the UK.
Ifan, who was on a Level 3 Bricklaying Apprenticeship with Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor's CaMDA construction and engineering centre, was put forward for the award by his tutor at the college Alex Jones, as well as Ian Evans of CITB.
Alex called Ifan a "model student - everything you could want as a tutor." He added:
"He came all the way into Dolgellau from Penllyn and yet his attendance was always full.
"He was leaving the house at six in the morning and wouldn't get back until six at night.
"But the standard of work that he produced was always so high - no matter if it was practical or written."
Ifan was nominated for the CITB award along with two others from Wales.
He was joined at the prestigious event by his employer, M and W Williams of Botwnnog.
But this is not the first time Ifan's work has received awards recognition.
Despite being just 18, he has already won the Welsh Region Skill Build competition two years in a row, and has also reached the Guild of Bricklayers National Finals.
He is now heading to the UK's largest skills, apprenticeships and careers event at the NEC Birmingham on November 15-17 to take part in the UK Skill Build finals.
Mike Taylor, Programme Area Manager for Construction and Engineering at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said:
"Ifan was an excellent student and is a real ambassador for the course and for young people his age.
"His attendance record was impeccable despite the long journey he had to make, and still his standard of work and level of performance was clearly excellent.
"He has shown that hard work pays off, and that absolutely helped his case when it came to being named CITB Apprentice of the Year for Wales and West Wales.
"It is a privilege to have had a student like him at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and CaMDA."
CaMDA is Grŵp Llandrillo Menai's £4.5 million Construction and Engineering Centre at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor's Dolgellau campus.
