The traditional Welsh slate industry has been a topic of interest for Life and Work Skills students from Glynllifon recently.
Firstly, they visited Inigo Jones at the Tudor Slate Works in Groeslon. While there, the students learned about the industry in North Wales dating back to the 19th century, as well as being given to chance to try out their own engraving and calligraphy skills on some traditional Welsh slate, with most impressive results.
Following this, the students also visited Plas Tan y Bwlch in Maentwrog which was originally built by the Oakley family who themselves were wealthy quarry owners back in the 19th century.
The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as their photographs clearly show!
