A group of Construction and Motor Vehicle students exchanged their workshops for an assault course when they took on 'commandos'!
The Building Craft Foundation and Motor Vehicle students from Coleg Llandrillo's Rhyl campus spent a day at Stadiwm Zip World's 'barn' at Eirias Park in Colwyn Bay, training with Commando XFit guys, Adam White and Daniel Harrison.
The students from the Rhyl and Colwyn Bay areas are enrolled on a 'Healthy Living' unit as part of their college courses, and with the help of Adam and Daniel, raised their mental and physical fitness levels.
The all-day session included talks on eating healthily and exercising, developing positive mental attitudes and dealing with problems in daily life. It also incorporated fun games such as team challenges and tackling the 120ft assault course.
One of their tutors, Samantha Marzolo, said:
It really was a fantastic day. It was lovely to see the students having fun whilst also experiencing the benefits of exercise and working as part of a team. Feedback from the students was extremely positive. They all commented how much they enjoyed the session and a couple have since joined gyms.
One of the students, Jacob Jones from Rhyl, said:
I really enjoyed the session. We learnt about staying positive and how to deal with things when they get too much. The assault course was really fun too!
Another student, David Whitfield from Colwyn Bay, added:
I don't really exercise much, so the event has given me the motivation to get up and do more. It helped me with confidence and now I feel better about working with others as a team. I'd love to do it again!
The 'barn' is a versatile space, which is primarily used as a training barn for the Wales under 20 team, but at 60m x 40m can be transformed into an exhibition centre for a range of music, cultural or trade events.
With a capacity of 3,000, the space is one of the only indoor events centre of its kind in North Wales.
