Coleg Llandrillo Hairdressing students recently organised a range of fun events at the college's Rhyl campus, in order to raise funds for a cancer support charity.

The group of Level 3 (A-level equivalent) students manned a range of stalls and organised several competitions in the college's main reception area, raising much-needed funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. The charity is close to the hearts of the students as one of the group has a young son who is presently having treatment for cancer.

Students set up a cake stall and a children's toy stall, as well as organising a build-a-bear raffle. The students also offered nail painting and hair braiding, ingeniously titled 'Plaits for Pounds'. One initiative, 'Hair For Dads', gave fathers of small children the opportunity to learn and achieve some simple hair-up techniques. The students raised over £130 in a matter of hours.

Leading up to the event, the students embarked on a six week, comprehensive marketing campaign to promote the event. They contacted local businesses for donations and advertised the event on social media.

Coleg Llandrillo Hairdressing lecturer, Alison Gough, said:

It was a fantastic day and praise should go to the students who worked tirelessly in the run-up. They organised the event as part of their qualification, where they have to promote and implement a promotional event and raise money for a charitable cause. The feedback was extremely positive and the money raised will go to a worthwhile cause.
