Trainee Climate Change Technician

  1. Support the development and implementation of highways, waste and property Service projects in particular developing a consideration of climate change issues and measuring carbon footprint e.g. the impact of road improvement projects, flood prevention, coastal protection, energy use in buildings and property, waste management and use of council fleet vehicles.
  2. Provide support in developing options and procedures to reduce carbon footprint for some specific projects in relation to highways, waste and property matters.
  3. Research and evaluate new and innovative technology to contribute to reducing the effect of climate change by working with providers and contactors when implementing structural projects.
  4. Complete background research (occasionally confidentially) and report the findings in a professional manner.
  5. Collect and analyse data relevant to aiding the Service in understanding carbon footprint and provide evidence of the effects of carbon footprint reducing projects.
  6. Support and maintain the Service’s database and systems to update and monitor data and information in those systems e.g. the Council’s fleet management system.
  7. Provide technical support in relation to producing highways, waste and property plans and consultations, along with funding applications.
  8. Ensure that records relating to certain projects are updated and that they are monitored regularly.
  9. Assist with preparing documents, plans and reports as required.
  10. Ensure that all main databases, spreadsheets and systems are updated and maintained with core data, and ensure that they are accurate and that there is appropriate accessibility for other users.
  11. Assist with administrative work in relation to applications for grants.
  12. Collaborate with the communication team to prepare publicity material and news items to promote.
  13. Other relevant administrative and professional duties from time to time.
  14. Comply with all the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all other appropriate regulations.
