Course Description

The main purpose of the qualification is to confirm that you are occupationally competent in your job role within a primary and secondary school as a teaching assistant.

Being confident to support children of school age to take the class and develop skills with planning lessons and activities. Supporting children with behavioural needs and additional learning needs.

Entry Criteria

Must be over 16 years of age and working in a school for a minimum of 16 hours.


An assessor will be assigned to you and there will be online session, support through Google Classroom and one file (e portfolio). An assessor will come to your workplace to do a minimum of four observations.


Your assessor will come into your workplace to assessor your competency.

Theoretical work will be done through:

  • Case Studies
  • Questions and Answers
  • Discussions
  • Witness Testimonies from teachers

Diplomas will be marked by a workplace assessor and moderated by the internal verifier.


If your job role allows you can go onto do the HLTA. Or a degree in children studies

Many level 3 students have gone onto do a teaching degree.
