Course Description

Launch Your Career as a Certified Domestic Energy Assessor

This professional qualification is designed for individuals pursuing a career as a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA). Upon qualifying, DEAs can register with an Accreditation Scheme, allowing them to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for existing residential properties in accordance with current legislation.

This comprehensive course combines intensive face-to-face training with structured ongoing mentorship to ensure you gain the practical skills, confidence, and qualification needed to thrive in the energy efficiency sector.

Structure & Key Information

  • Mandatory Attendance: Learners must fully attend the 5 days of face-to-face classroom delivery.
  • Portfolio Support: Following the classroom sessions, we provide dedicated portfolio support 1 day every 2 weeks for a period of 10 weeks to help you successfully complete your practical assessments.
  • Completion Deadline: All course requirements and portfolio submissions must be completed within 12 months of starting the course.

What You’ll Master

  • Property Assessment: Acquire the practical skills needed to accurately assess domestic dwellings of various ages and types.
  • Software Proficiency: Learn to navigate RdSAP software to generate compliant and precise EPCs.
  • Hands-on Practice: Work through simulated EPC test cases during classroom tuition and master the property matrix requirements.

Assessment & Portfolio Requirements

To achieve this qualification, you will be required to complete independent test case EPCs as part of your assessed portfolio. This demonstrates your practical competence in conducting real-world energy assessments.

  • Please Note: Candidates must source and complete three independent EPC test cases practically. Your test cases must meet the requirements of the NOCN property matrix, which you will receive alongside your training materials.

Entry Criteria

  • No specific qualifications or prior experience are required to become a DEA.
  • An interest in construction and good maths skills can be beneficial but are not essential.
  • Property Access: Access to three properties is strictly required to complete the post-course test case EPCs.

Equipment Needed

  • Tape measure or laser measuring device for measuring room dimensions.
  • Step ladder to access loft spaces safely.
  • Camera or smartphone/tablet to capture internal and external property photos for portfolio evidence.
  • Access to a PC or laptop (Note: The required RdSAP software is not compatible with Mac computers).

Important Information

  • DBS Check: When applying to become an accredited Domestic Energy Assessor, you will need to provide a basic disclosure certificate (DBS/CRB) issued within the past three years.
  • Course Preparation: Before your course begins, we will send you detailed information outlining the tasks you will need to complete.
  • Google Account: If you do not already have one, please set up a Gmail account prior to the course to access course materials and receive feedback on your portfolio submissions.
