Level 4 Certificate in Applying Therapeutic Skills and Approaches to Support Wellbeing in Others

This course supports the guidance within the Welsh Government’s Thinking Positively: Emotional health and well-being strategy and raises awareness of emotional wellbeing and mental health and is potentially suitable for:
People working in the statutory, private and voluntary sectors who would like to further develop and enhance their helping approaches through implementing therapeutic skills and evidence based practice as part of their professional role.
Designed to enhance employability working within social, health care, mental health, emotional wellbeing, Education and life coaching roles.
Students who wish to be considered for further related training and progression at degree/postgraduate level.
Course will look at behavioural theories and approaches to helping others, how to support others experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties reviewing evidence based practice in, and implementing therapeutic group activities, life coaching and building positivity and resilience on others.
Level 2 - Introduction to Basic Counselling Skills (or equivalent) and Level 3 Counselling skills and Theory or a recognised qualification and certificate in a relevant field at level 3 or above. This should be in a professional helping or caring role for example Nursing, Therapy, Welfare, Coaching or Health, Care or Childcare roles. During the course, you will need to be working or volunteering within a workplace or voluntary sector that allows you the opportunity to practise and utilise Therapeutic and Helping skills and Theory. This course is not suitable for those who are currently experiencing emotional difficulties. The course does involve therapeutic skills practice that can involve considerable personal disclosure, associated personal developmental activities and related self-reflection. Successful interview. Approved and current academic or professional reference within an 18 month timeline of start of the course.
The overall course content is designed to be participative and the teaching style will reflect this process, in that it will demonstrate a link between Therapeutic theory and practical skills.
The taught sessions will offer a variety of learning activities, with a mixture of:
Small group work
Modules taught and assessed are:
Enabling behaviour change
Developing therapeutic relationships to enhance
Understanding mental health
Implementing therapeutic group activities
Ongoing assessments will be through self, peer and tutor feedback and assessments.
All modules are assessed through internally assessed course work.
Assignments may include essays, presentations, workbooks, reflective journals and videos.
