Course Description
The iBSL Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training for Sign Language Teachers is designed to provide a pathway to lifelong learning for Deaf people seeking to teach British Sign Language. Students will gain knowledge on the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, inclusive teaching and learning approaches, facilitation learning and development with individuals or groups and the role of assessment in the teaching and learning process.
Modules (21 credits must be achieved from the mandatory units)
- Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training (3 credits)
- Delivering education and training (6 credits)
- Using resources for education and training (3 credits)
- Assessing learners in education and training (6 credits)
- Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training (3 credits)
Optional Modules (minimum of 15 credits)
- Teaching in a specialist area (15 credits)
- Principles and practices of sign language teaching (15 credits)
- Identify individual learning and development needs (3 credits)
- Inclusive practice (15 credits)
Entry Criteria
An interview is required. All trainee teachers joining this qualification must undertake and initial skills assessment in English, Maths and ICT
Delivery
Lessons will be remote, via Zoom, over 1 academic year
Assessment
This course will be assessed by producing a course file which will include the written or signed assignments linked to each unit, and feedback received from teaching observations and micro-teaching session.
The Three observations must be linked to the following mandatory units:
- Delivering education and training
- Assessing learners in education and training
- Using resources for education and training
