Course Description
Who it’s for:
Care workers, support workders and healthcare assistants who already have foundational knowledge – the core qualification
- learners from 16 years of age working in a support role with adults in the Healthcare and Social Care sectors.
- learners who have completed the Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core Qualification
- learners already employed in the Healthcare and Social Care sectors
- learners returning to the workplace after a career break looking to refresh their knowledge and skills
- learners who have completed the Level 2 Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts (Adults) qualification.
It is strongly encouraged that learners have completed the core qualification prior to, or alongside, the Level 2 Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults) as this will be a requirement for practice set by Social Care Wales. It is also a feature of the Foundation Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care.
Entry Criteria
Learners must be working and employed in a Health and Social Care organization and have previously achieved the core qualification in Health and Social Care.
Interview required by the WBL team.
Delivery
The learners must successfully complete:
- a portfolio of evidence that includes direct observation of practice
- externally set, internally assessed tasks
This is delivered via 1-1 WBL support, from an allocated assessor.
Assessment
Assessment type: It is a competence-based qualification. Assessors evaluate you directly in the workplace through observations, professional discussions and by reviewing a portfolio of your work.
Reflections, questions, professional discussions and questions and answers, including witness testimonies, are the variety of assessment methods used to build a portfolio of evidence and external tasks set.
Core topics covered:
- Person-centred practice and promoting independence
- Health and safety, infection control and safeguarding individuals
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
Progression
Completing this practice-based qualification allows workers to demonstrate they meet professional registration standards (such as those required by Social Care Wales). It opens doors to roles in domiciliary care agencies, nursing homes and supported living projects. It can also serve as a stepping stone to a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.
The qualification supports learners to progress to:
- Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice Adults
- Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice (Children and Young People)
- Advance GCE and Advance Subsidiary GCE in Health and Social Carel, and Childcare
- Level 4 Preparing for Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care
- Level 4 Professional Practice in Health and Social Care (Adults)
