British Sign Language (BSL) AwarenessAdults & Part-time
Course Description
The Senedd has passed the British Sign Language (Wales) Bill, which will establish a new framework to promote and support the use of British Sign Language in Wales.
The Bill places duties on Welsh Ministers to develop a National BSL Strategy, informed by a BSL adviser and an assisting panel, alongside BSL guidance. This guidance will in turn set the direction for public bodies to follow when developing local BSL plans.
Are you and/or your business ready to adapt in order to adhere to the bill, and promote, support, and facilitate the use of BSL?
If you need to learn more about BSL, this 3-hour session will cover:
- Introduction to BSL: Understand the basics of British Sign Language and the Deaf community.
- Key Signs: Learn essential signs for communication with customer interactions, and team collaboration.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Gain insights into the Deaf culture, ensuring respectful and inclusive communication.
- Practical Exercises: Hands-on activities to practice and reinforce new skills in a fun, interactive way.
The benefits of the BSL awareness session are:
- By learning basic BSL, you can directly communicate with Deaf customers and colleagues, making your organisation more accessible and inclusive.
- Foster a more inclusive and respectful workplace culture by increasing staff’s understanding of Deaf culture and fostering a sense of community.
