Course Description

This VTCT course is for those wishing to pursue a career in makeup or related industries or those with a strong interest in this subject and wishing to expand their knowledge and skills.

The course consists of the following units:

  • Apply makeup
  • Face & body painting
  • Fashion and photographic makeup
  • Camouflage makeup
  • Airbrush makeup to the face
  • Media makeup
  • Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Relevant health & safety and anatomy and physiology requirements are integrated into each unit.

In addition you will study:

An Essential skill, Employability skills, Digital literacy or similar. Or, if you have a D grade in your GCSE Maths or English, you will be required to undertake resit classes.

Entry Criteria

In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:

  • A relevant Level 2 qualification at Pass
  • Relevant industry experience

You will also require an attendance level of 86% in your previous year of study.

As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.

Delivery

The course is one year full-time and is delivered over 3 days per week. This may include the following delivery methods:

  • Remote classes and online learning.

  • Home study and practical skill building.

  • Practical workshops in the college salons.

  • Assessment in the RWE, (Realistic Working Environment).

  • Work experience opportunities where possible.

  • Video’s and demonstrations.

  • Group work including practical skill building on your peers.

  • Written work and revision tasks.

  • Assignments, research, design and planning.

  • Online exams

Assessment

The course is assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Portfolio of practical assessments for each unit
  • Assignments and research tasks
  • Multiple-choice online tests covering the underpinning knowledge
  • Your behaviour will also count towards your assessment, in terms of maturity, professionalism, personal development, interaction and communication.

Progression

  • Employment in a variety of makeup environments
  • Progression onto other hair/beauty programmes of study
  • HE in Media/Fashion makeup
