Is this course right for me?

In the UK, one in four people are experiencing a mental health problem at any one time, including those in the workplace. This course has been designed as an introduction to mental health and to raise awareness of how increasingly important it is to recognise the signs and symptoms and begin to understand issues within mental health.

The course provides an overview of mental health whilst outlining some common causes, symptoms and effects. The course includes potential strategies to help yourself or colleagues to feel supported and encouraged to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

  • Introduction – what is mental health? Common causes and symptoms, Statistics, stigmas, what you can do to help, mental health law at work and risk assessment,
  • Types of Mental Health Problem – an overview of Stress, Anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia, eating disorders, self-harm, loneliness and panic attacks.
  • Managing a Mental Health Problem – tips to improve health and wellbeing, setting goals, peer support. Importance of sleep, diet and exercise. Effects of drugs and alcohol on MH. Understanding the signs and taking a break, undertaking mindfulness, seeking support, medication and recovery.
  • Supporting Mental Health– Recognising a problem (signs symptoms), why mental health is not discussed at work or home, talking about mental health with friends and family, supporting a colleague, promoting a healthy lifestyle.
