Is this course right for me?
Access Level 1 qualifications give students the elementary knowledge, skills and confidence to take on higher level AAT qualifications or to progress in their lives and careers. This qualifications will suit students who have had minimal work experience or those who need some additional support and have English language at the ESOL 3 level. Also this may be in interest of those who are self-employed or working in small business who wish to do their own bookkeeping.

A student completing this qualification will develop an understanding of responsibilities of a bookkeeper and the importance to work efficiently and the importance of confidentiality. Students will learn the basic bookkeeping terminology - assets, liabilities, income, expenses, profit and loss, cash and credit transactions. Develop an understanding of the basics of manual bookkeeping. Students will develop the skills to prepare, check and process customer and supplier transactions. They will learn to enter receipts and payments into the cash book and check amounts against the bank statement in preparation for the bank reconciliation.
You should have an interest in studying accounting as a career.
You will need to register as an AAT member.

Computer-based assessment of 1.5 hours
After successfully completing the AAT level 1 Award in bookkeeping you may be able to progress to:
- AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping
- AAT Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Accounting
- AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
