Is this course right for me?
The Higher Apprenticeship framework has been designed to provide the manufacturing and engineering sector in Wales with high-grade technicians and engineers who have practical skills, combined with a higher education qualification.
The programme will facilitate progression to Level 5/6 qualification and enable apprentices to work towards Incorporated Engineer status.
Higher Apprentices will undertake higher-level technical occupations in such sectors as aerospace, mechanical, electrical/ electronics, automotive, maintenance, wind generation, research and development, marine, space and rail engineering.
Entry requirements:
- Previous Engineering awards (e.g. BTEC and NVQ at Level 3) and experience in the Engineering sector desirable
All places are subject to satisfactory interview.
Delivery:
Evidence from the workplace is collected for the NVQ element where an assessor regularly visits on site to discuss progress
College is usually on a day-release basis over 2 years where the Technical Certificate (HND or HNC) is followed.
Framework requirements also currently require Essential Skills at Level 2 in Application of Number, Communications and IT, as well as wider Key Skills at level 2 in Working with Others and Improve own Learning.
Assessment:
For the NVQ element:
- Completion of a portfolio of evidence
- Work based observations to assess competency
For the Technical Certificate (HND/HNC):
- Theory based tasks and tests

Level 5/6 awards
