Is this course right for me?

These courses are for adult learners with severe learning disabilities.

These courses provide learning opportunities to develop practical skills and confidence in a variety of subjects and settings.

There is a fee associated with this course, which will be discussed further with you at interview.

Entry requirements:

Applicants will need to attend an interview, be working at E1 or below and complete an application form.

Delivery:

Students will have classroom sessions which will be delivered to meet individual needs. 

Learners will be in small groups (maximum of 10; Cookery: maximum of 8) with a Tutor and an appropriate number of Learning Support Assistants.

Assessment:

A variety of assessment methods are used within the session to establish individual needs and to ensure the correct level of ASDAN unit is completed.

Main sources of evidence will be observational, photographic, work products and tutor testimonies. Written task sheets may also be used.

All learners will have regular tutorials, education guidance and access to pastoral support.

Progression:

After 1 year, learners can progress on to further STEPS courses.

    Each STEPS course runs as a 3 hour session per week. A variety of courses and subjects are available to study. These courses develop and enhance practical skills in a range of topics. Subjects include: 

    • Environmental Studies 
    • Creative Studies 
    • Cymru and the world around us 
    • Essential Skills (Number, Communication and ICT) 
    • Cookery
