Is this course right for me?

You should have a keen interest in Electrical systems and be prepared for working outdoors in all weather conditions. The industry usually forms working teams and allocates work activities on a tight schedule. Customer satisfaction is a keen element of the industry and completion of tasks within a prescribed timescale is closely monitored.

Entry requirements:

  • Successful practical assessment

The course is very physically demanding and requires candidates to climb wooden electrical distribution poles using a spike and harness technique.

All places are subject to satisfactory interview.

Delivery:

The programme will be delivered through sessions in a class environment to understand the basic principles of distribution systems and overhead line construction.

Practical sessions will be incorporated to aid understanding and to have practical experience of working on top of a wooden distribution pole.

Assessment:

The programme will be assessed through a series of formal examination that are set by City and Guilds. These are short answer question papers or multi-choice examinations.

Essential skills are required to progress onto an apprenticeship. These are assessed through the construction of a Portfolio.
