Is this course right for me?

Are you passionate about art and design? Would you like to work and study in this field?

This Level 2 course provides an exciting curriculum, designed to develop your creative skills and ideas, as well as equipping you to work in the creative industries. It is suitable for students progressing from a relevant Level 1 course, or from GCSE studies.

You will experience a wide range of creative activities that may include photography, graphic design, fashion and textiles, fine art, design crafts and other areas. The course will help you to develop your creative ideas in response to the world around you, and use those skills to develop a career. You will also develop useful business skills, such as enterprise and marketing, which will be valued by a range of employers.

Throughout the course, each student's creativity is nurtured and encouraged in a supportive environment. You will be tutored by practising artists and designers, who will guide and support you as you develop your portfolio of work. You also will benefit from specialist facilities, with purpose built studios and workshops.

Entry requirements:

  • Art and Design Level 1, or a related vocational area; or,
  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to two GCSEs grade C or above 
  • Other related Level 1 qualifications
  • Relevant work experience
  • A portfolio of your creative work (this is not a test, but an opportunity for us to see your creative ideas and understand which areas you are most interested in).

All places are subject to satisfactory interview/taster session.

  • Classroom based learning
  • Tutorial support
  • Educational visits
  • MOODLE (virtual learning environment)
  • Google Classroom

Assessment:

The programme is assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Practical and written assessments/assignments
  • Presentations and demonstrations
  • Portfolios of work
  • Some units of the course are marked by external assessment.

Progression:

Successful students could progress on to a number of courses at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, including:

  • Art and Design Level 3
