Course Description

This qualification is ideal for learners wishing to become paediatric first aiders in a workplace with the responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. The course content aligns with the paediatric first aid syllabus within the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Entry Criteria

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.

  • You must be at least 14 years of age
  • You should possess the aptitude and physical ability to carry out the practical tasks required

This qualification contains 2 mandatory units. You must achieve both units to gain this qualification

Subjects covered include: The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider,how to provide first aid to an infant or child who is unresponsive, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an automated external defibrillator. It also covers how to administer first aid to an infant or child who is choking, has a fracture or other conditions, such as burns, electric shock and sudden poisoning.

Assessment

Assessment by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods, including:

  • practical demonstrations
  • task-based assessments

Progression

You could choose one of the many different courses available at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, including:

  • Childcare qualifications
  • Other first aid courses (adults).

The qualification is valid for a period of three years after which point learners must retake the course. In addition, annual refresher training is strongly recommended.
